Here we tell you why Teacher's Day is celebrated on June 29 in Nicaragua.

How was Teacher's Day born in Nicaragua?

Teacher's Day was born on June 29 to remember the Nicaraguan teacher Enmanuel Mongalo y Rubio , who played a fundamental role in the first Battle of Rivas , on June 29, 1855 , which is why this same date was chosen to celebrate to all the teachers in the country.

Mongalo y Rubio fought throughout the Nicaraguan civil war against the filibusters of William Walker, better known as the pirates of the sea of the Antilles. The feat for which this Nicaraguan teacher is remembered is none other than for having volunteered to run with a torch to Máximo Espinoza's house, the place where the filibusters were found and thus start a fire so that everyone would come out .

After the defeat of the filibusters, Enmanuel Mongalo y Rubio refused to receive the monetary compensation that was offered to him for his heroic action. Teacher's Day has been celebrated in the country since June 29, 1977 .
